Deerhoof
Milk Man
(Kill Rock Stars, 2004)

Deerhoof have made plenty of wonderfully quirky rock albums in the past ten years and all of them are worthy of high placement in one decade end list or another. For me, Milk Man is that album. Greg Saunier's inventive drumming is perfect, Satomi’s vocals are endearing and John Dieterich and Chris Cohen’s guitars are absolutely marvelous. The fact that the album went on to soundtrack a elementary ballet says it all. Milk Man is a childlike spasm of shy beauty, sugar-rush rock riffs and hooks, hooks, hooks. I couldn’t think of a better album to rock out to like a rag doll without inhibitions. Which, in case you didn't know, is what I am.
