Doseone
Skeleton Repellent
(Self Released, 2008)

I was a latecomer to this solo album from Subtle/cLOUDDEAD emcee Doseone, otherwise it would have surely landed among the top listings of my year end roundup for 2008. Similar to his work with his alpha band on ExitingARM, Doseone’s aesthetic on Skeleton Repellent leans far more towards avant pop than his native hip hop, and with wonderful results. Skeleton Repellent shows off the talents of one of the busiest, most inventive, all-around artists of the decade creating a labyrinthine psych pop gem that has been sorely overlooked by the indie music industry at large. Definitely a must have for anyone who has been caught ogling the multitudinous and varied works of the incomparable Doseone.
